Samuel L. Jackson confirms that Martin Freeman is set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming Disney+ Secret Invasion series.
Samuel L. Jackson has confirmed that Martin Freeman is set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming Disney+ series Secret Invasion. Freeman’s character, Everett Ross, a CIA agent, debuted in 2016 Captain America: Civil War and appeared later in 2018 Black Panther. It is also confirmed that he will return in this year’s sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige announced Secret Invasion at the 2020 Walt Disney Investor Day event as part of the MCU’s upcoming Disney+ lineup. The show will be based on the popular Marvel comedy event and will focus on “a sect of Skrulls who have infiltrated all levels of life on Earth.Already confirmed to appear on the show, Jackson, reprising his longtime role as Nick Fury, Ben Mendelsohn, reprising his role as Skrull Talos from Captain Marveland game of thrones star Emilia Clarke, whose character has yet to be revealed.
During an onstage talk titled “Samuel L. Jackson in Conversation with Josh Horowitz” in New York City (via The Direct), Jackson let slip that Freeman was part of Secret Invasion’s sunk. As Horowitz was listing the cast members of the upcoming series during the presentation, Jackson interrupted him to say Freeman’s name. This is the first time that Freeman is mentioned in regards to Secret Invasion.
As Marvel Studios has not yet started the marketing campaign for Secret Invasion, the upcoming show is still shrouded in mystery. Everything seen comes from leaked set photos and videos, like one that included Clarke in an action scene with someone in a motion-capture suit. But even the leaked images didn’t reveal much about the series. At this time, it’s also unclear when the Disney+ series will premiere, although it’s likely to be next year.
Secret Invasion is one of the most anticipated upcoming titles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as its original source material is one of the most popular Marvel crossover events in their comic book history. As for Freeman, his MCU character has been a fan favorite since his debut in Civil wareven if he really distinguished himself in Black Panther. The CIA agent is considered an amusing, entertaining, yet important comic relief – the eyes and ears of the public in this weird and wonderful world. Knowing that he will come back not only for the Black Panther continued but for Secret Invasion is also an uplifting assurance that these upcoming titles won’t be entirely without laughs.
