“We are very disturbed by a video that has emerged on social media in recent days in which a very Sri Rajindra Pal Gautam, former chief minister of the Delhi government, was present while vows against a religion were taken,” the statement said. letter to the president read.
A video of MP Rajendra Pal Gautam participating in a program in Delhi in which around 10,000 Hindus adopted Buddhism has gone viral on social media. The AAP leader was seen taking an oath with other attendees of the event and taking an oath that they would not perform puja from a Hindu god after converting.
Here is the content of the letter from the Buddhist gurus:
“Our concerns are manifold. More importantly, what happened is completely contrary to the teachings of Lord Buddha and the principles of Buddhism. Buddhism does not teach spitting venom against any other religion. Buddhism does not espouse not ‘rejection’ or disrespect of other gods and goddesses (as this particular video suggested) Lord Buddha’s teachings embody the spirit of ‘अप्प दीपो भव’ -Enlightened self, ‘Sarva Dhamma’- Sarva Dharma Sambhava (Respect for all religion). For centuries Buddhists and Hindus have co-existed peacefully and there has been a rich inter-religious dialogue between our religions.Mahatma Gandhi was deeply influenced by the thoughts of Lord Buddha and also talked about it very frequently.
The minister has done a great disservice to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, who gave India a constitution that we are all proud of. The Constitution of India is the very document that has protected the rights of the poor and marginalized. She also paved the way for an inclusive society where all faiths are respected. The Delhi rally fails this test. It is the same Constitution where the images of Lord Ram, Krishan, etc. were represented.
It is very shocking that a cabinet minister from Delhi, which is the capital of India, is present there. A minister takes an oath in the name of the Constitution given to us by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and he or she must work to uphold the values enshrined therein. This meeting in no way symbolized the spirit of our Constitution.
No one in the Delhi government has condemned the departure of one of their senior officials. We hope this will be done as soon as possible. We also urge the relevant authorities to take immediate action against them and the participants for attempting to divide the nation.”
