Tarn Taran: The president of the sect Kar Sewa Khadoor Sahib, Baba Sewa Singh, was appointed Faith Advisor for the Earth by the United Nations Environment Program. At a virtual meeting of the United Nations Religion Initiative, a front-end organization of the United Nations Environment Program, said Thursday. The kar sewa sect plans to plant 25,000 saplings in public places and cover both sides of a 25 km road in 2021. Baba Sewa Singh is known as an environmentalist who has been planting saplings since 1999. Biodiversity, management of waste and water conservation are the three main tasks highlighted by the UN for action in 2021. OC

2 foreign-made pistols seized

Amritsar: The Border Security Force (BSF) confiscated two foreign-made pistols, which were brought into Indian territory by elements based in Pakistan on Tuesday. The weapons were found during a search operation near the Panjgraian border outpost following a denunciation. The weapons were wrapped in polyethylene and hidden under the earth. The BSF later informed police in Ramdas of the seizure. A complaint was lodged with the Ramdass police by Bhagwan Singh Srivastva, SI, BSF. According to police, BSF seized a 7.63mm pistol (made in China) along with 12 bullets and a Turkish-made 9mm pistol with a cartridge. Police arrested several suspects from villages near the international border for questioning. Police also questioned the owner of the fields from which the weapons were seized. TNS

4 mobiles, charger seized in Amritsar prison

Amritsar: In another seizure, authorities at Amritsar Central Prison on Wednesday confiscated four cell phones from the drug rehabilitation center on its premises here. While a cell phone was recovered from a prisoner identified as Ravinder Singh, aka Bhinda, the remaining phones were found unclaimed and packed in a poly bag. Avtar Singh, deputy superintendent of the central prison, said during the check on the number 2 barracks of the drug rehabilitation center, a cell phone was seized from Ravinder Singh. Likewise, an unclaimed polythene bag was confiscated, which was concealed in a bathroom pipe. Once opened, three cell phones were found. Prison officials also found a mobile charger from notorious gangster Amanpreet, aka Rinka. Two separate cases have been recorded at the Islamabad police station here. TNS

14 year old child attributed to Darbar Sahib

Tarn Taran: A 14-year-old boy who disappeared Wednesday from his home village of Bharowal was found Thursday in Darbar Sahib. SSP Dhruman H Nimbale said boy Arunpreet Singh (14), son of Jarnail Singh, had left home due to a domestic problem. He said the boy was handed over to his parents by Inspector Jaswant Singh of SHO Goindwal Sahib police. CO
